Ukraine says Belarusian spy arrested in northern region

January 4, BPN. In late 2022, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) arrested a resident of the Chernihiv region, suspected of cooperating with Belarus’ intelligence services.

His name, age and occupation have not been published.

The SBU press office said there’s “irrefutable evidence” against the man who allegedly spied on defense forces in northern Ukraine’s border areas.

He allegedly “tried to send the collected information to Russia with a draft evader, whom he was going to smuggle across the border avoiding checkpoints,” it added.

The man is accused of high treason, illegal handling of weapons/ammunition and human trafficking.
