KGB says counterterrorism drills held in Minsk, Viciebsk

January 6, BPN. The Committee for State Security (KGB) says exercises to check government agencies’ readiness to cooperate and respond to acts of terrorism have been held in the Minsk and Viciebsk regions since January 5.

Units of the KGB, Ministry of Internal Affairs, State Border Committee, Ministry of Emergency Situations and other bodies participate in the drills, it said. The scenario involves the use of military hardware.

A check of the state’s counterterrorism system was held on December 7-8 under the Security Council’s supervision.

In February 2022, Russia had used Belarus as a launchpad for an offensive on Kyiv.

Officials in Minsk often claim that NATO and Ukraine prepare an attack on their country, arguing that a Russian-Belarusian group of forces has defensive goals.
