Consumer prices up 12.8 percent

January 11, BPN. The National Statistics Committee says in December 2022, consumer prices for goods and services increased by 0.4 percent compared to one month earlier, and by 12.8 percent compared to December 2021.

Food rose by 0.7 percent in December, and by 13.8 percent year-over-year; non-food products fell by 0.4 percent, and became 13.7 percent pricier than in 2021. Services rose by 1.1 percent and 10 percent, respectively.

The inflation target for 2022 was 6 percent.

In a bid to curb galloping inflation, Łukašenka signed a directive to freeze consumer prices on October 6. He demanded that any price increases should be authorized by the state. On October 10, has said the freeze was only a short-term measure.

On October 19, the government introduced profit margin caps to control prices for 370 items, removing some of them from the list a week later.
