State to shut down Belarusian Association of Political Repression Victims
January 14, BPN. The state is planning to shut down the Belarusian Association of Political Repression Victims.
The Supreme Court will hear the liquidation case opened by the Ministry of Justice on February 3, the top court’s schedule indicates.
The NGO has existed since 1992 to provide all sorts of assistance to Soviet-era repression victims, and to commemorate them.
On January 10, the Supreme Court started hearing the liquidation case against the Belarusian Voluntary Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments, established in 1969.
According to the Lawtrend human rights group, Belarus lost at least 1,173 non-profit organizations, such as associations, trade unions, foundations and NGOs, between the 2020 presidential election and the end of December 2022.
Most of them have been shut down by decision of the authorities.
