Belarus vows to react to US sanctions
January 18, BPN. Belarus regards US sanctions as interference in its domestic affairs, a spokesman for the Belarusian foreign ministry, Anatol Hłaz, has told Russian news agency TASS.
He was commenting on the US Department of State’s decision to impose visa restrictions on 25 Belarusian officials for undermining democracy.
“We regard this decision as interference in our sovereign nation’s domestic affairs and an attempt to put pressure on our justice system,” Hłaz said.
“Of course, we will be forced to react to this short-sighted wrong step,” he added.
Announcing the move on January 17, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said a total of 322 Belarusian nationals have fallen under visa sanctions since 2020.
