Belarus seeks to boost trade with Syria – Belarus’ envoy to Russia
January 27, BPN. Belarus and Syria have “great potential for cooperation in agriculture and automotive industry,” Belarusian ambassador to Russia Dźmitryj Krutoj has told his Syrian counterpart Bashar Jaafari in Moscow.
Belarusian agriculture as well as agricultural, truck and road construction equipment should be among the priorities, Krutoj noted. He also stressed the importance of expanding contacts between Belarusian and Syrian business communities, mainly through the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, the Belarusian embassy in Russia reported.
Both diplomats reaffirmed “the traditionally high level of Belarusian-Syrian interaction and support at the UN and other international organizations,” it added.
The Syrian and Belarusian economies have not become particularly complementary so far, but there is considerable potential for greater mutually beneficial cooperation, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told Belarusian Prime Minister Raman Hałoŭčanka two months ago.
The Belarusian government’s delegation reportedly signed six agreements and memoranda of understanding in trade, education, housing construction, transport, industry and customs as a part of a two-day visit to Syria in November 2022.
