Belarusian, Russian pilots conduct joint training near Poland, Ukraine
January 28, BPN. Belarusian and Russian pilots conduct combat training at the Ružany range in the Brest region, near Poland and Ukraine.
Leanid Davidovič, commander of the Baranavičy-based 61 Fighter Air Base, said in a video disseminated by the Belarusian defense ministry’s press office that they perform tasks “in line with one plan and one design.”
“Naturally, fighter aircraft cover bombers’ formations and reconnaissance crews from ‘enemy attacks,’” he said. “In addition, they carry out tasks to escort long-range radar guidance systems A-50U. Accordingly, bomber crews carry out their typical tasks: flying to the range and dropping bombs at targets.”
Belarus and Russia started joint air force drills on January 16. Andrej Łukjanovič, commander of the Belarusian Air/Air Defense Forces, said the drills, expected to continue until February 1, were to “improve interoperability.”
