Cichanoŭskaja: Belarusian military men want no war with Ukraine
February 14, BPN. Belarusian military men do not want to be at war with Ukraine, Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has told a Zoom press conference.
She said her cabinet had advised Belarusians about war time action. If war breaks out, the opposition will activate its “victory plan” (Bel.: Płan Pieramoha), she added.
The opposition’s law and order secretary Alaksandr Azaraŭ said the cabinet “is not waiting” for Alaksandr Łukašenka to go to war, but is “acting to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
“We are working together with the Ukrainians in line with a secret plan,” Azaraŭ said. “We do not know whether we will succeed or not, but we will do everything to prevent Belarus from going into war. In the meantime, Łukašenka has prepared for the war, as shown by the air training exercises, where they practiced destroying Ukrainian defenses. Łukašenka is ready, time will show when he enters [the war].”
Foreign secretary Valer Kavaleŭski said the cabinet was working to build an international coalition in support of Belarus’ independence. Given the current situation, many Belarusians will want to leave their homeland, which will cause humanitarian issues, he added.
