Baltic states, Belarus’ opposition to hold Belarusian-Baltic forum in 2023

February 19, BPN. Belarusian opposition and the Baltic states’ leaders will meet at the Belarusian-Baltic forum in the spring or summer of 2023, Franak Viačorka, the chief advisor to the Belarusian opposition leader Sviatłana Cichanoŭskaja, told BPN.

She reportedly reached this agreement with Estonia’s Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu during their February 18 meeting at Munich Security Conference.

The talks focused on “continued support to Belarusian opposition and further sanctions against the [Alaksandr] Łukašenka regime,” Reinsalu tweeted.

Tallinn will help the Belarusian opposition set up its office for the Baltic states and send a special envoy to Lithuania to work with the Vilnius-based Belarusian opposition’s leadership on a permanent basis, Viačorka said.

Estonian authorities may consider the possibility of recognizing the “new Belarus’ passport,” a travel and ID document developed by the Belarusian opposition, he added.

Estonia has been consistent in its support for the Belarusian opposition, initiating hearings on Belarus in the UN Security Council, advocating for visa facilitation for Belarusians and funding opposition-related projects.
