March 27, BPN. “Russia’s nuclear rhetoric is dangerous and irresponsible,” Oana Lungescu, NATO’s spokesperson, said following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of plans to deploy nuclear weapons to Belarus.

“We haven’t seen any changes in Russia’s nuclear posture that would lead us to adjust our own,” she stressed.

“Russia’s reference to NATO’s nuclear sharing is totally misleading,” she said. NATO allies act in full compliance with their international obligations, while Russia has been consistently violating its commitments and suspended its participation in the new nuclear arms reduction (START) treaty, the official said.

On March 25, Putin announced that the construction of a special storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons would be completed in Belarus by July 1.
