Belarus, Kenya to create political consultations mechanism
April 3, BPN. The Belarusian and Kenyan foreign ministries signed the memorandum on establishing a regular political consultations mechanism during Belarusian Foreign Minister Siarhiej Alejnik’s visit to Kenya on April 1-3.
Alejnik met with William Ruto, who was elected president last year, and with Foreign Minister Alfred Mutua. The parties discussed “the whole range of bilateral relations” and “defined joint steps to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest,” the Belarusian foreign ministry’s press office reported.
Alejnik also had talks with the trade minister, Moses Kuria, and Kenya’s businesspeople.
“The parties discussed cooperation in order to mechanize agriculture, strengthen Kenya’s industrial potential, and expand mutual trade and industrial cooperation,” the foreign ministry said in a press release.
Kenya’s media reported that Alejnik passed on “a goodwill message from President Alaksandr Łukašenka.” Łukašenka wrote that Belarus was ready to advance its “interests, technologies and investments” in Kenya.
On February 23, Kenya voted for a UN General Assembly resolution that called for ending the war in Ukraine and demanded Russia’s withdrawal from the country. Belarus voted against it.
