Lithuania summons Belarusian diplomat to protest illegal border crossing by border guard
April 15, BPN. The Lithuanian foreign ministry on April 14 summoned a Belarusian diplomat to protest in the strongest terms against “repeated violations” of Lithuania’s border.
The move comes after a Belarusian border officer briefly crossed into Lithuania on April 12, according to the ministry’s press office.
The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reported the incident on April 13. Lithuanian law enforcers have launched a preliminary investigation.
Belarus has not commented on the incident.
On March 30, the Lithuanian interior ministry reported that its head Agnė Bilotaitė requested that European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson consider co-funding for a patrol trail along the shared border.
