Ministry confirms freight train derailed in Russia belongs to Belarusian Railway
May 1, BPN. The Belarusian Ministry of Transportation and Communications has confirmed that the train derailed in Russia belongs to Belarus.
“At 10:17 a.m. today, an unidentified explosive device went off at the 136th kilometer of the Unecha-Rassukha line, 50 meters away from the Belarusian Railway’s freight train No. 2528,” the ministry said in a statement. “The train of 78 cars left Homiel Station for Bryansk Station. The explosion derailed eight cars. The locomotive crew was not injured.”
Belarusian Railway’s representatives and a recovery train went to the scene, it added.
The Bryansk governor and Russian Railways reported the incident this morning. The press office of the Russian company said “unlawful interference with railway transport operation” derailed the locomotive and seven railcars: three carrying construction materials and four carrying oil products (two tanks caught fire).
When photos and videos from the scene surfaced on the Internet, some users pointed out the train’s livery, suggesting that it belonged to Belarusian Railway.
