Rights group demands resignation of Belarus’ honorary consuls in Germany, Switzerland
May 5, BPN. Human rights group Libereco has called on Belarus’ honorary consuls in Germany and Switzerland to resign immediately.
Martin Schröder and Frank Kossiсk hold these positions in Germany, and Hermann Alexander Beyeler and Andrey Nazheskin in Switzerland. Previously, two of the four honorary consuls of Belarus in Germany resigned, and Ukraine revoked that status from such a representative in Lviv.
One thousand days after the presidential election in Belarus, “the Łukašenka regime’s repression against its own population is at a record level,ˮ Libereco said in a statement.
It takes a broken moral compass to represent Belarus amid the crackdown and the invasion of Ukraine by Minsk’s ally Russia, said Marco Fieber, an activist for the German-Swiss group.
Libereco’s Lars Bünger said that “the international community must set up a special tribunal to hold Łukašenka and all his helpers and abettors accountable for their crimes.ˮ
