Annual inflation hits 4.6 percent in April

May 13, BPN. Belarus’ core inflation rose to 4.6 percent in April from a year earlier, the National Bank said. That was down from 5.6 percent in March and 13 percent in January.

Consumer prices also increased by 4.7 percent year-on-year in April, compared with 6 percent in March and 12 percent in January.

The bank said trend inflation, which excludes various shocks, was 4.6 percent in April.

Alaksandr Łukašenka has ordered the government to keep this year’s inflation around 7 percent by using monetary and other measures.

Belarusian officials had projected inflation of 7-8 percent in 2023 and aimed to keep the growth of prices and fees under 6 percent.
