Polish president says Belarus may stage provocations

May 14, BPN. On May 13, an unidentified flying object, most likely an observation balloon, entered Polish airspace from Belarus, Poland’s defense ministry reported.

The radar reportedly lost contact with the object near Rypin, a town located about 140 km northwest of Warsaw and 300 km from the Belarus border. Polish authorities have launched a search operation.

Polish President Andrzej Duda described the incident as a provocation as he addressed servicemen participating in Anakonda-23, a joint NATO-Poland military exercise.

It is necessary to recognize provocations, assess their danger and take appropriate decisions, he said. Poland draws conclusions from every incident as it focuses on the safety of its citizens, he added.
