Foreign investment in Belarus’ economy down 12 percent in Q1 – Belstat

May 14, BPN. Foreigners invested a total of $3 billion in the real economy of Belarus from January to March, a 12-percent decrease year on year, the National Statistical Committee (Belstat) reported.

Russia accounted for almost 45 percent, followed by Cyprus with 30 percent and the Netherlands with four percent.

Foreign direct investment fell by 13.3 percent to $2.6 billion.

Investments from Belarus grew to $1.9 billion in the first quarter with Russia being the top destination (92 percent).

These figures do not include investments in banks, non-bank financial institutions, the Development Bank and budget-funded organizations, Bestat noted.

In 2022, foreigners invested a total of $7 billion in the real economy of Belarus, 19.5 percent less than in 2021.
