Poland proposes European action plan to protect Belarusian language, culture

May 17, BPN. Poland considers it necessary to adopt a European action plan to protect the Belarusian language and culture, Polish Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Gliński said in Brussels on May 16.

Poland-based Belarusian organizations asked Polish authorities to pay attention to this problem, he added.

Alaksandr Łukašenka’s regime seeks to replace the Belarusian language and culture with Russian by restricting the teaching of Belarusian, publication of Belarusian books and operation of the Belarusian media, Polskie Radio reported citing the official.

Belsat TV, currently affiliated with Polish public television, remains the only Belarusian-language TV channel, Gliński noted.
