Belarus to sign export loan agreement with Nicaragua

May 19, BPN. The Belarusian Council of Ministers of Belarus has approved a draft agreement on export loans with Nicaragua, says a document published on the National Legal Internet Portal.

The government authorized the industry ministry to negotiate and sign the draft agreement allowing for minor changes. It did not release the text of the agreement which reportedly will become “a basis for negotiations.”

Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada will visit Minsk on May 19 and 20 and meet his Belarusian counterpart Siarhiej Alejnik, the foreign ministry’s press office said earlier.

They will discuss political, economic, humanitarian and international relations, as well as joint projects, including Belarusian equipment exports to Nicaragua. A number of important documents on cooperation between the two countries will be signed, the ministry added.

Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Central America. Its trade with Belarus has been mostly falling since 2017, peaking at about $1.2 million in 2021 and mostly consisting of Belarusian exports.

Nicaragua has traditionally supported Belarus and Russia on the UN General Assembly level.
