Prominent teacher Liviant, family go on trial in Minsk

May 19, BPN. The trial of Jaŭhien Liviant, a prominent tutor and co-founder of 100 Ballov education center, has opened at the Maskoŭski District Court in Minsk, the court’s electronic schedule says.

Judge Kaciaryna Muraška, known for handing down prison sentences in politically-motivated cases, presides over the proceedings.

Authorities accuse Liviant, his wife Julija, daughters Halina and Hanna, son-in-law Mikita Drozd, business partner Alaksiej Ivanoŭ and a certain Alaksandra Ensajn of participating in protests.

Human rights groups consider Liviant, his wife, daughter Hanna and her husband Mikita Drozd political prisoners. They have been in custody since December 2022.
