Łukašenka upbeat about Belarus-Cameroon cooperation

May 20, BPN. Belarus prioritizes the expansion of ties with Cameroon in all areas of joint interest, says Alaksandr Łukašenka’s congratulatory message to Cameroon’s President Paul Biya on National Day.

Boosting cooperation in agriculture and food sectors, industry, healthcare and education is in the “long-term interests of the two countries,” Łukašenka’s press office quoted the message.

Belarusian authorities pin high hopes on African countries as they try to reorient the export routes in an attempt to mitigate Western sanctions.

On May 17, Belarusian foreign minister Siarhiej Alejnik pledged to actively develop both economic and political cooperation with Africa referring to it as “a pillar of a multipolar world.” Belarus is well aware of the African countries’ needs in Belarusian “machinery, technologies and expertise,” he said after meeting his Ugandan counterpart Jeje Odongo in Moscow.

Belarus and Cameroon established diplomatic relations in November 2006. In 2021, Belarusian exports amounted to $10.1 million. Belarus sold potash fertilizers, oil products and aluminum parts and bought $1.8 million worth of cocoa beans, coffee and bananas from Cameroon.
