Regime critic Siŭčyk attacked in Warsaw

May 25, BPN. Unknown perpetrators attacked the leader of the Razam Solidarity Movement, Viačasłaŭ Siŭčyk, on the outskirts of Warsaw last night, the movement’s co-leader Alena Tałstaja said on Facebook.

She said the attackers sprayed gas in the Belarusian politician’s face and took his cell phone. The attack has been reported to the police, she added.

The politician’s son Vitaŭt Siŭčyk later posted a Facebook video, in which the father confirmed the attack, adding that he was “all right.”

The movement Razam (Together) emerged after the 2006 presidential election with the aim of supporting pro-democracy public initiatives. It registered in the European Union and Ukraine. Siŭčyk criticized Russian imperialism and the construction of the Astraviec Nuclear Power Plant.
