Belarus disconnects second nuclear unit for tests

May 26, BPN. Belarus has temporarily disconnected the second unit of its nuclear power plant from the grid for tests, the energy ministry has said.

The unit, which began generating electricity on May 13, was shut down for “dynamic tests in the full power-down mode” to check the reliability of its equipment and systems, the ministry said in a statement.

The tests are part of the power start-up stage. The unit is to enter commercial operation in October 2023.

The first unit of the Russian-built plant near Astraviec, Hrodna region, was declared to start commercial operation in June 2021.
