Kazakhstan’s president dismisses Łukašenka’s offer to join Union State as joke

May 29, BPN. Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described Alaksandr Łukašenka’s offer to join the Union State of Russia and Belarus and share nuclear weapons as a joke, his press office said on Telegram.

The Kazakh leader sees no need for his country to join the Union State because Kazakhstan is a member of other regional integration projects, such as the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), it said.

Kazakhstan does not need nuclear weapons and remains committed to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), Tokayev stressed.
