Interior ministry labels Insider newsblog as extremist group

May 29, BPN. The interior ministry has declared an independent newsblog and its subscribers an extremist group, according to the ministry’s online register.

The Belarusian officials have stepped up an assault on freedom of expression after the disputed 2020 presidential election, often labeling newsrooms and social media as extremist.

The Insider, a  blog on the messaging app Telegram, covers sanctions, reprisals, the Belarusian leadership, and the war in Ukraine. It has over 10,300 subscribers. It also has a chat, which was blacklisted too.

The list of extremist groups has 131 entries.
