Łukašenka appoints new head of State Border Committee

May 30, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka has appointed Kanstancin Mołastaŭ, former head of the Hrodna Border Guard Group, as new chair of the Belarusian State Border Committee.

The previous chair, Anatol Łapo, has been dismissed from active military service.  

Łukašenka also appointed Andrej Chmiel, former minister of housing and communal services, as the chair of the Hrodna region’s executive committee.

The European Union, USA and Canada included Łapo in their sanctions lists in December 2021, while Japan and Ukraine joined in 2022.
