Zelensky says Belarus to be Putin’s next target

May 30, BPN. Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks to restore the Soviet Union, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told South Korea’s Chosun.

Putin has used all kinds of threats and turned energy into a weapon because he could not achieve his goals through diplomacy, he noted.

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine made Putin an aggressor, Zelensky added noting that Russian troops kill and torture countless civilians and threaten a nuclear disaster by occupying nuclear power plants.

Belarus is Putin’s next target, he warned.

Ukraine does not fear of the declared deployment of Russian nuclear weapons to Belarus now that Moscow has made nuclear threats part of its strategy, he said.

The Ukrainian leader described declarations on the possible transfer of Russian tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus as a political trick to threaten Ukraine and Europe. He also condemned nuclear threats as a violation of the territorial sovereignty of other countries.

On May 25, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin and his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu signed the terms of storage of Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons in Belarus. Two months earlier, Putin announced that Russia planned to construct the facility before July 1.

Belarusian leadership will not be authorized to control any of these weapons, Shoigu stressed.
