Top diplomat says Belarus coping with sanctions

May 31, BPN. The past two years have shown that Belarus has successfully coped with the “illegal pressure of sanctions,” said Foreign Minister Siarhiej Alejnik.

“We have shown moderate economic growth and have successfully redirected trade,” he said following his May 30 meeting with Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in Islamabad. “Strangely enough, we have made many new friends and allies along the way.”

Transformation of international relations and decline of the unipolar world are inevitable as most countries are tired of being bossed around, he noted.

Over the past few years, democratic countries have imposed multiple restrictions on Belarus over human rights abuses, alleged vote rigging in the 2020 presidential election, a brutal crackdown on protesters, the forced landing of a Ryanair flight, a migration crisis at the European Union border, as well as support of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
