Łukašenka accuses West of destabilization attempts in ex-Soviet countries
October 13, Pozirk. The main goal of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was “to prevent the breakdown of ties after the collapse of the Soviet Union,” Alaksandar Łukašenka has told the participants of the CIS summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
“This did not suit and does not suit our competitors, the West, which have not abandoned their attempts to destabilize, weaken and subordinate us to their interests,” his press office quoted him as saying. “Georgia left our association first, Ukraine left de facto and there are big questions about Moldova. Unfortunately, Armenia does not always behave in a partner-like manner.”
Former Soviet member states may be “torn apart,” and” ordinary people will suffer first of all,” he said.
The Belarusian ruler called for a more critical assessment of the situation in the CIS, noting that some of its members today have to face the consequences of long-standing conflicts.
