Minsk’s popular online magazine shuts down citing lack of funding

June 5, BPN. The Village Belarus, an online lifestyle magazine that covered life in Minsk, has announced that it suspends publication over a lack of funding.

The magazine’s editor-in-chief, Jaŭhienija Suhak, said on Facebook that she and the entire team were leaving the project with “great regret and love” after six years in journalism.

The Village Belarus was declared “extremist” by a court in December 2022 and blocked in Belarus and Russia. Its publisher Alaksandr Vasilevič was detained in August 2020 and later sentenced to three years in prison for tax evasion. He left Belarus in the summer of 2022.
