Navapołack doctors fired for not showing up for work while in jail – opposition initiative

June 6, BPN. All employees of the Navapołack Central City Hospital in the Viciebsk region arrested in a large police raid on May 17 have been fired for not showing up for work, the Belyye Khalaty advocacy group said.

The raid reportedly was linked to a leak about the hospitalization of former presidential hopeful Viktar Babaryka with a collapsed lung and signs of beating. His whereabouts and condition have been unknown since April 28.

Surgeon Michaił Pačkoŭski and urologist Pavieł Stalmakoŭ were jailed for 15 days on charges of sharing information labeled by authorities as extremist.

Surgical nurse Śviatłana Hryharovič was also sentenced to 15 days in jail on unknown charges.

Gynecology department head Iryna Vasiljeva and paramedic Natalla Piervianionak were given 10 days for alleged public order offenses.

Piervianionak was also said to be punished for a Ukrainian flag on her social media avatar.

Ultrasound specialist Ała Stalmakova, who has two minor children, was fined 3,700 rubels ($1,400) on unknown charges.
