People have right to defend independence after Putin’s nuclear move – opposition

June 18, BPN. The Belarusian opposition has said the people have the right to defend independence “by all available means” after Vladimir Putin claimed part of his nuclear arsenal had been deployed in Belarus.

The United Transitional Cabinet denounced the move as a violation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty by Russia and Alaksandr Łukašenka’s government in a statement yesterday.

It said the deployment contradicted the will of the people, who wanted their country to remain non-nuclear.

According to international law, any use of force against the Belarusian people by Russia will be an act of aggression, it added.

It called on international organizations, the United States and its allies to stand up for Belarusian independence.

US President Joe Biden criticized Putin’s nuclear move as irresponsible.

Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja called on diplomats to discuss the alleged deployment at the UN General Assembly and Security Council.
