Italy freezes €2 billion in Russian, Belarusian assets

July 4, BPN. Italy has frozen an estimated €2 billion in Russian and Belarusian assets as a result of sanctions imposed over the war in Ukraine, ANSA reports.

The assets include villas, yachts and luxury cars, it wrote, quoting the head of the Italian Financial Intelligence Unit, Enzo Serata.

The authorities blocked 170 financial transactions linked to 80 entities as of the end of June. The frozen funds totaled more than €330 million.

The European Union has imposed sanctions on Minsk for its crackdown on dissent and its role in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The measures include travel bans and asset freezes on officials and entities, as well as trade and financial restrictions.
