Belarus-Lithuania border crossing remains closed

July 9, BPN. Lithuania has not reopened the Medininkai border checkpoint due to an unresolved incident with the Pakistani illegal migrant who remains at the border, BNS reports.

Lithuanian border guards offered the man water and some food as he spent the night on the roadside near the border, said Giedrius Mišutis, spokesman for the border guards. Belarusian authorities reportedly keep denying his readmission.

There are no queues at the border crossing as traffic is redirected to other checkpoints, the official added.

Late on July 7, the Pakistani man, traveling by bus from Minsk to Vilnius, was denied entry to Lithuania after presenting forged identification papers at the border. Belarusian border authorities said documents were genuine, but refused to let the man back into Belarus.

On July 8, Lithuania suspended traffic a the Medininkai border crossing over the incident.
