Zelensky discusses Belarus border situation at northern region meeting
July 10, BPN. Ukrainian officials discussed the situation in the regions bordering Belarus, Russia’s ally, during yesterday’s meeting in Lutsk, Volodymyr Zelensky has said.
The Ukrainian president, police and military officers, and local officials discussed reinforcing border security in every region along Ukraine’s northern frontier, the condition of shelters, and funding.
Ten days before, Joint Forces Commander Serhiy Nayev said there was no immediate threat of enemy ground forces launching an offensive on Ukraine’s northern military sector. The remarks came after the general headquarters had ruled that top commanders should implement a set of measures to reinforce the northern areas.
Russia has repeatedly struck Ukraine from Belarusian territory, where it has an increased military presence. It used Belarus as a launchpad for its February 2022 offensive on Kyiv. At the same time, Minsk says that Belarusian troops are not directly involved in hostilities in Ukraine.
