Babaryka’s family speaks with prison authorities, health “not in danger”
July 18, BPN. The administration of Navapołack’s Penal Colony No 1 in the Viciebsk region has said that Viktar Babaryka is being held in the colony’s internal prison, also known as the PKT, according to the opposition leader’s team.
“It is unknown why he has been placed in the PKT and how long he will be there,” it said.
The administration banned Babaryka, arrested after he moved to challenge Alaksandar Łukašenka in the 2020 vote, from having telephone conversations or receiving visitors, but allowed correspondence. It spoke with Babaryka’s relatives yesterday. “His health is supposedly not in danger,” the team said.
News of Babaryka’s transfer to the internal prison came 10 days ago from a resistance group called BelPol.
Earlier this year, he was hospitalized with signs of beating and a collapsed lung, according to reports in April.
