Nonprofit counts over 136,000 repression victims in Belarus
July 26, BPN. The number of victims of reprisals and terror in Belarus has exceeded 136,000 and there are sufficient grounds to believe that the authorities have committed crimes against humanity, according to Justice Hub.
The Vilnius-based nonprofit analyzed “serious human rights violations” committed by the authorities from May 2020 to May 2023, such as “torture, murder, rape.”
It plans to submit the report to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and Lithuanian prosecutors to streamline justice under universal jurisdiction.
Justice Hub supported the creation of a special tribunal to hold the Belarusian authorities accountable.
“The currently existing legal framework… leaves a large impunity gap,” it said.
