Ukraine’s border guards count over 5,000 Russian mercenaries in Belarus

July 28, BPN. Ukraine has not recorded any enemy movements near its shared border with Belarus, Andrii Demchenko, a spokesman for the Ukrainian State Border Guard, has told journalists.

More than 5,000 Wagner Group mercenaries are stationed in Belarus “at a considerable distance from the border with Ukraine,” he added.

Ukraine’s intelligence continues to monitor their deployment and activities as well as assess potential threats to Ukraine, the official said.

Russian mercenaries use Belarus to strain the situation in the vicinity of the European Union, he added.

Minsk and Moscow keep threatening Poland and Lithuania while EU countries have come up with mixed assessments of the Wagner Group threat.
