Energy ministry denies reports of problems at nuclear plant

July 30, BPN. The Ministry of Energy has denied reports about “massive defects” at the Belarusian nuclear plant, its Telegram channel says.

The nuclear plant’s data leaked online represents routine assignments for contractor organizations for “detailed monitoring of the timing and quality of work performance,” it said.

The data is updated daily and most of the leaked information is no longer relevant, the ministry added.

Located near Astraviec, Hrodna region, some 10 miles off the Lithuanian border, the Belarusian NPP has been designed by Russia’s Rosatom and built with a Russian loan. Lithuania views the plant as unsafe and describes it as a “geopolitical weapon.”

Unit 1 started pilot operation in November 2020, and commercial operation, in June 2021. Unit 2 is scheduled to begin commercial operation in October.
