January 26, Pozirk. Belarus’ Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakoŭ has visited Zimbabwe to sign a memorandum of cooperation between the two countries’ law enforcement bodies, the interior ministry’s press office reported.

He also met with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Kazembe Kazembe. The officials agreed “on the exchange of information, training, and many other things.”

The Belarusian delegation was shown “the training process at a police college” and “the skills and abilities of a special unit’s fighters and their supply of technical equipment.”

Kubrakoŭ said that Alaksandar Łukašenka “ordered to provide all possible assistance to our Zimbabwean friends.” “We will do it by providing the best we have. I believe that this visit will strengthen our bilateral relations,” the interior minister said.

Kazembe said the parties agreed to cooperate on a number of aspects that will improve law enforcement work in both countries.

Łukašenka visited Zimbabwe from January 30 to February 1, 2023. In April, Zimbabwe’s first lady Auxillia Mnangagwa spent several days in Minsk.

Western countries have added Kubrakoŭ to their sanctions lists for reprisals against Łukašenka’s political opponents.
