February 1, Pozirk. Minsk and Moscow have agreed to write shared history textbooks for schools and colleges, Ambassador Boris Gryzlov told the United Russia party in Moscow, TASS reported.

“This topic is vital because there are still discrepancies in the understanding of very significant events in the history of the Soviet Union and the Russian Empire,” said the Russian envoy to Belarus.

On January 25, the Russian presidential commission on historical education and the Belarusian presidential council on historical policy signed a memorandum of understanding.

The document establishes a joint commission to protect “historical truth,” Gryzlov announced last month.

He said implementing the memorandum “will significantly contribute to fighting against the falsification of history and protecting our common interests.”
