Cichanoŭskaja meets Sandu, praises Moldova as Belarusians’ ally
October 21, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja described her first visit to Moldova as “a new page for Belarusian-Moldovan relations,” her aide Franak Viačorka has told Pozirk.
On October 21, she met with Moldova’s President Maia Sandu, focusing on the situation in Moldova and Belarus and cooperation in the international arena.
The Belarusian politician spoke about the opposition’s European choice for Belarus and expressed support for the similar aspirations of Moldova. Belarus can be safe, free and prosperous only in the European Union, she said.
Asserting human rights is a universal cause especially as democracy is under attack in many countries, she stressed.
Cichanoŭskaja also participated in the Moldova Women Forum 2023 where she spoke about of the courage of Belarusian women who are held in prisons on politically-motivated charges.
