Mahiloŭ region’s reporter jailed for 15 days

April 15, Pozirk. Dzianis Nosaŭ, a journalist with the private weekly Vecherniy Bobruisk based in Babrujsk, Mahiloŭ region, is serving a 15-day jail sentence for sharing opposition content, Mediazona reported.
Police arrested him on April 8.
In a video posted by a pro-government Telegram channel, the journalist linked his arrest to sharing posts with friends on the Telegram messaging app and subscribing to opposition content after the start of Russia’s full-scale war on Ukraine.
In October 2020, Nosaŭ had been arrested at a protest rally he was covering as a journalist. He spent three days in a pre-trial detention center and was released after a judge dismissed the charges against him.
In September 2022, police searched his home. In the same month, authorities blocked access to Vecherniy Bobruisk’s website which continued to appear in print with a circulation of about 5,000 copies. Currently, the website is being updated.
More than 40 media workers are imprisoned in Belarus, according to Reporters Without Borders.
