Opposition leader invited to G7 foreign ministers meeting on Capri
April 17, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja will participate in the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting taking place from April 17 to April 19 on the Italian island of Capri, her aide Dzianis Kučynski has said on Telegram.
It will be the first time that a representative of Belarus will participate in a G7 ministerial meeting, held ahead of the 50th G7 Summit, scheduled for June 13-15 in Fasano, southern Italy.
Cichanoŭskaja has also been invited as a special guest to the 2024 conference of speakers of the European Union’s parliaments in Spain later this month, her aide said. The King of Spain is listed as another special guest, he added.
The politician plans to raise the issue of Belarusian political prisoners and discuss a strategy to restore democracy in Belarus.
The G7 comprises Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Italy holds the 2024 G7 presidency.
