Biełstat reports economic growth acceleration
May 17, Pozirk. Belarus’ economic growth accelerated to 5.1 percent in the first four months of 2024 from 4.1 percent in the first quarter, the National Statistics Committee (Biełstat) said.
The government projects a 3.8-percent growth for 2024 after the economy grew by 3.9 percent last year, recovering from a 4.9-percent fall in 2022.
The Eurasian Development Bank expects Belarus’ economy to expand by about 2 percent this year; the International Monetary Fund, by 2.4 percent; the World Bank, by 1.2 percent.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development recently revised upward its forecast from 1.3 percent to 2.8 percent, yet warned that Western sanctions are likely to affect Belarus in the short and medium term, with growth to slow down to 2.2 percent in 2025.
