Over 1,000 warning shots at Polish-Belarusian border in six months – Tusk

June 10, Pozirk. Warning shots have been fired over 1,000 times over the past six months at the Polish-Belarusian border, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told a press conference following a cabinet meeting in Białystok.
He said firearms were used more than 770 times for warning purposes in May alone.
Officials at the meeting approved a security zone at the border with Belarus. “We are talking about a zone 10 km wide and 200 m deep,” Tusk said.
Because of the “hybrid war waged by the authorities of Russia and Belarus,” the Polish government plans to help residents of border areas, he added.
Attacks on the Polish military and border guards by illegal migrants heading to the European Union from Belarus were reported on May 28 and 31, as well as on June 4.
On June 6, the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade reported the death of its private, who was wounded last month. According to the Polish Border Guard, Mateusz Sitek was stabbed by a man trying to cross illegally from Belarus in a large group.
Belarusian democratic forces blamed the Łukašenka regime for the death and other border incidents.
