Pro-government writers’ union set to publish Łukašenka’s selected works

June 11, Pozirk. Alaksandar Karlukievič, chairman of the pro-government Union of Writers of Belarus has supported a proposal to publish a collection of Alaksandar Łukašenka’s selected works.
Valeryj Šumiłaŭ, who introduced himself as a “scientific essay writer,” came up with the idea at today’s press conference in Minsk. He also suggested offering Łukašenka union membership.
“A great deal of [Łukašenka’s] writings deserve to be included into a book,” Karlukievič said. “They will be the primary reference for many speakers, who sometimes paraphrase [him] inaccurately.”
In 2021, the Belarusian government outlawed the Union of Belarusian Writers, founded back in 1934, over disagreements with its policy.
The only writers’ association in Belarus is the union of pro-Łukašenka writers set up in the mid-2000s.
