German sentenced to death asks Łukašenka for pardon

July 30, Pozirk. Rico Krieger, a German sentenced to death in Belarus, has asked Alaksandar Łukašenka for pardon, the Belarusian ruler’s press office reported.
Łukašenka is holding a meeting with several officials, including Ludmiła Hładkaja, a propaganda officer who attended Kreiger’s trial held behind closed doors, to discuss the petition.
On July 19, the Viasna Human Rights Center confirmed that the Minsk Regional Court had sentenced the 30-year-old German national to death on June 24.
Krieger was charged with illegal handling of firearms, deliberate disabling of communication lines, association with an extremist group, an act of terrorism and mercenarism.
