Police arrest at least 10 “destructive characters” in Homiel region

September 27, Pozirk. Law enforcers said they have arrested at least 10 people in the southern Belarusian towns of Brahin, Jelsk, Łojeŭ, Chojniki and Naroŭla.
A Telegram channel associated with the police released a video of unarmed civilians being brutally arrested without resistance. It called the arrestees “destructive characters.”
One of them said he befriended Ukrainians in a video game and insulted Russia and Alaksandar Łukašenka in online comments under their influence. Another man appears to have been arrested for a tattoo.
Most of those arrested confessed to following “extremist” pages.
Some of them were charged, while others got away with a warning, the source said, without elaborating.
On September 19, media reported that security forces carried out raids in Hłybokaje, Viciebsk region, and Stolin, Brest region, to arrest people involved in “extremist activity.”
In Hłybokaje, 20 locals were arrested for taking part in street protests against electoral fraud in 2020. At least five people were arrested in Stolin.
On September 18, media reported that seven people were arrested for subscribtions to “extremist” social media in the Homiel region.
