Chojniki district residents ask for protection amid Russian drone incursions
October 20, Pozirk. Residents in the Homiel region’s Chojniki district bordering Ukraine asked Belarusian authorities to protect their children from military drones, says a petition posted on petitions.by.
Civilian facilities, including kindergartens and schools, are exposed to increased risks as Shahed drone incursions into Belarus are on the rise, it said, requesting the installation of electronic warfare equipment on the roofs.
The defense monitoring group Biełaruski Hajun has been reporting drone incursions into Belarus over the past three months as Russians targeted Ukraine.
At least three Russian drones violated Belarusian airspace last night, according to the group. One of them was shot down by Belarusian air defense forces in the Homiel region’s Jelsk district which also borders Ukraine, it said. Residents of several towns reportedly heard the explosion at about 1.25 am.
In early September, Belarusian air defenses downed several drones over Homiel. Two weeks ago, Alaksandar Łukašenka admitted drone incursions and claimed that Belarusian air defenses shoot down UAVs regardless of their Russian or Ukrainian origin.
Earlier this month, media reported a brutal arrest of a woman in Kalinkavičy, Homiel region, over Russian drone crash video.
